Kootenay Lake ferry to close down Saturday afternoon
Service to renew Sunday morning at 6:30 a.m.
Folks hoping to sail on the Kootenay Lake ferry on Saturday afternoon and night could need to plan an alternate route.
A publish on DriveBC says the ferry between Balfour and Crawford Bay will probably be out of service from 2:45 p.m. Saturday till 6:30 a.m. Sunday.
The final crusing from Balfour will probably be at 1:10 p.m. Saturday, and from Kootenay Bay at 2 p.m.
The operator of the ferry, Western Pacific Marine, says on their web site an time beyond regulation ban imposed by the union on the ferry is the trigger for the service interruption.
The corporate is at the moment in a labour dispute with its workers from the BC Authorities and Service Workers Union.
A spokesperson for the union mentioned members are solely working to the restrict of the important service order, which doesn’t require weekend service. Ferry customers are requested to go to ferries.bcgeu.ca for updates.
The ferry staff have been in a authorized strike place since voting 100 per cent in favour of labour motion to press their calls for with Western Pacific Marine.
The 80 members of the BC Authorities and Service Workers Union Native 2009 are pushing for higher wages and dealing circumstances, in addition to “to deal with critical points of coaching, retention and recruitment of certified marine professionals,” the union says.
