Merrimac ferry closing Thursday for the season | Native Information

The Merrimac ferry is making its closing rounds Thursday throughout the Wisconsin River earlier than closing for the season.

The state Division of Transportation stated the final journey for the ferry, which connects the ends of Freeway 113 between Merrimac and Okee, will come at midday on Christmas Eve.

From the beginning of the 2020 season on April 20 by means of Dec. 10, the Merrimac ferry — formally referred to as COLSAC III — made 35,779 journeys throughout the river and carried 201,772 automobiles, in accordance with the DOT.

The opening and shutting of the ferry season relies on ice on the river, so when it goes out in spring, the ferry begins working, and when it begins forming in fall, the ferry stops working.
